PHILOSOPHY & PURPOSE

Furman University expects that individuals will act in a manner that is respectful of the rights and privileges of others. Furman University has a responsibility to provide an environment which is conducive to the freedom to learn on the part of its students.

In order to provide such conditions, Furman University has developed policies and procedures designed to safeguard this freedom. Responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the community rests with each individual member. Only if every member assumes responsibility for personal and group integrity and civility will the community best meet the developmental needs of its members. Each person must examine, evaluate and regulate his/her own behavior to be consistent with the expectations of the Furman community.

Furman University's student handbook, The Helmsman, is produced by the Division of Student Life and presents the official statements of policy, rules and regulations which impact student life at Furman University. The University reserves the right to amend its rules, policies and procedures at any time.

FURMAN UNIVERSITY INTEGRITY PLEDGE

- In so doing, all members of our community strive to live lives of honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Therefore, it is the expectation that all persons will conduct themselves with integrity in every endeavor.
- In honoring these inherent values and ideals of Furman University, it is with dignity and the highest commitment that I pledge to subscribe to them and support others in the same.
