Greenbelt Community
Engaged Living’s Greenbelt Community is a residential learning community for approximately 22 upper class residents who are interested in learning about and living an environmentally sustainable life. Furman defines sustainability as an exploration of "…the dynamic relationships among social, economic, and environmental systems so as to enhance the long-term quality of life." The purpose of the Greenbelt Community is to serve as an living/learning incubator for sustainability leadership on the Furman campus with the goal of developing community leaders in the area of sustainability.
The mission of the Greenbelt Community, which is located along the lake next to the Furman Bell Tower and adjacent to the
David E. Shi Center for Sustainability and the Furman Farm, is
"To create and nurture a sustainable residential community that promotes student success, supports Furman's academic mission through contributions to borderless learning, and fosters intentional engagement among students, faculty and staff."
