Application Process:
Students residing on campus for any reason (summer school, work, research, working for the university, etc.) between Sunday, June 2, and Saturday, August 10, must submit a
May X / Summer Housing Application form to the Housing & Residence Life Office by 5 p.m., Monday, April 8.
Do I have to be a Furman student to live on campus?:
No. If you are working/interning in Greenville and need a place to live, you may submit the
May X / Summer Housing Application form to the Housing & Residence Life Office by 5 p.m., Monday, April 8. You must also complete and return the
Non-Furman Resident Deposit Form and $100 to the Student Business Center to serve as a summer housing damage deposit.
***Furman students will be assigned before we can commit to housing non-Furman students.***
Where will summer students be housed?:
All students will be housed in North Village buildings A, B, C, and F. Housing & Residence Life anticipates being able to accommodate all students who request summer housing; however, in the event capacity is reached, housing will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The staff reserves the right (based on space limitations) to deny summer housing to students who are not officially involved in some way with the University.
Housing & Residence Life must assign students to both private bedroom apartments and shared bedroom apartments.
Payment:
You must pay your summer housing fees by going to the Student Business Center during the first week in campus housing. You are also required to submit the
Summer Payment Form. The Student Business Center is located in the administration building. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Policies and Procedures:
All policies and procedures outlined in
The Helmsman apply to individuals living in campus housing during the summer.
Do students with a 2013-14 assignment at The Vinings need to register
for May X and/or summer housing?
Only students who receive a 2013-14 Vinings assignment through the
lottery and want to move directly to The Vinings from North Village
should submit a May X and/or summer application. Select May X housing
only and The Vinings drop down box. Students who follow this process
will be able to remain as "late stays" in North Village until moving to
The Vinings no later than May 12, 2013.
2013-14 Vinings students who will move to The Vinings later in the summer do not need to complete the May X/Summer Application, but will work through the Vinings Management Office to schedule a check in date. These students should check out of campus housing with the close of North Village on May 5.
What is the process for residents on campus for BOTH May X and summer housing?
- Students who have a spring assignment in North Village Buildings A, B, C, or F will remain in their spring assignment for both May X and summer with no break in housing.
- Students who have a spring assignment in North Village Buildings G, H, I, or K will be re-assigned to North Village Buildings A, B, C, or F for both May X and summer with no break in housing. These students will be required to relocate ON May 7 in order to begin summer refurbishments to G, H, I, and K at the close of spring semester. There will be no additional charge for May 2-7.
- Students who have a spring assignment in North Village D, E, and J or in the residence halls will remain in their spring assignment until May 16-18 (see "Transition from May X to Summer Assignment" guidelines below).
Transition from May X to Summer Assignment:
May 16 through May 18
All May X residents assigned for the summer session must move to their summer assignment between May 16-18. Only May X residents with
no summer assignment can remain in May X housing until closing on Thursday, May 30, at 12 noon.
Transition from Summer to Fall Assignment:
August 2 @ 6:00 p.m. through August 4 @ 5:00 p.m.
All summer residents (only exceptions are non-Furman residents and Furman students not living in campus housing fall semester) must move to their fall assignment over this weekend. The housing rate for the final week of summer housing will be based on the resident's summer assignment, not on their fall assignment.
All students who move to their fall assignment must pay the summer housing rate for that final week, even if they do not actually stay there during that time. There will be no additional fee between August 10-22. Non-Furman residents and Furman students not living in campus housing during the fall semester must check out by noon on Saturday, August 10.
Requesting an Assignment and/or Roommate
Summer students can request only ONE roommate within the same apartment. Many variables must be considered in the assignment process and within a restricted time frame. In order to accomplish this intense administrative task and meet the assignments deadline, roommate requests must be limited to one per apartment.
Specific apartment assignment requests will be considered but are not guaranteed. Attempts are made to minimize moves for students (i.e. If a student will be in campus housing the entire summer and has a fall assignment in a building used for summer housing, the student will be assigned to his/her fall assignment for summer if at all possible.)
Students who submit the May X/Summer housing application beyond the deadline
forfeit the opportunity to make roommate and assignment requests.

Based upon our current enrollment projections and our need to fill our
on-campus housing beds before we use The Vinings for students, we do not
anticipate needing to use The Vinings to house students during the
2013-2014 academic year; therefore, summer housing will not be available to students at The Vinings during 2013.
