Housing Request & Roommate Matching for New Students
So that the best possible roommate selections can be made, Housing &
Residence Life does not begin the matching/assignment process until after the deadline for submission of the Housing Assignment Request Forms.
Therefore, new students should expect to receive a room assignment and roommate information by email in mid-July.
Housing & Residence Life gives considerable time and thought to
matching roommates. All new resident students should carefully complete
the Housing Assignment Request Form. A link to this form will be made
available by email on May 13, 2013.
The form will be due by May 31, 2013. Though meeting the May 31 deadline is required, no advantage is given to students for submitting the form earlier during this window of time.
We strongly believe in the success of our roommate matching process; therefore, we do not allow new students to choose their own roommate(s).
Any applicant who receives a letter from
Admission after the May 31 deadline should complete and submit the
online form immediately. Before completing the form, review the different
residence hall descriptions. Please
note that priority is given to residence hall requests based on a
random computer-generated lottery number assigned to the Housing Assignment Request forms on May 31 at 5pm
. Priority is
not given based on the order the submissions are received.
Most residence hall rooms are designed for either two or three students.
Find answers to your questions about triple rooms and the selection process at
Triple Room FAQs.
A
limited number of single rooms are available for new students.
Students
who require or who wish to make
ANY special housing requests due to a diagnosed
disability or medical need must follow the proper procedures outlined at
http://www2.furman.edu/studentlife/housing/Selection/Pages/Disability.aspx by June 14, 2013. This includes a request to alter a room in
ANY way, even as simple as a medical need for a student to bring his/her own mattress.
Under 17? Parents, please contact the Director of Housing & Residence Life early in the summer to proactively discuss some of the social pressures and issues your student can expect living in campus housing.
