Insurance and Billing Furman University

As a college student you're probably on a tight budget. That's why we offer most of our health services free to all full-time undergraduate students. Come in for a free check-up, some over-the-counter medicine, or a referral to a specialist. Medical procedures are kept at a low monetary cost due to the fact procedures are not filed under insurance.

Insurance

Furman University does not offer a specific insurance plan for its students while attending school. If your family's insurance provider doesn't cover you while you're at school, we recommend exploring various options by visiting Healthcare.gov. It is the responsibilty of the individual to understand whether services in South Carolina are in-network or out-of-network.

If you're an international student you'll be automatically enrolled in the VISIT International Health Insurance Plan. Contact the Office for Study Away and International Education at 864.294.3274 for more information concerning this insurance.

It is important for both students and guardians to understand that Student Health Serivces does not file insurance. The Medical Office Manager may assist in the process of self filing with your current insurance company. Please contact the office between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday-Friday during normal academic hours or 9am-1pm during summer hours.

Billing

Most of our services are free to current students. However, there are some tests and injections that we charge for here at the clinic. Students who fail to pay for these services will have a flag placed on their records. While the flag is in place you will not be able to register, be readmitted to the university, or access your transcripts.Student Health Services handles their own billing process seperate from the Student Business Center. For billing questions or to pay for a bill please contact the Student Health Services office between the hours of 9am-5pm.
