National Panhellenic Council Furman University

Created in 1930, the National Pan-Hellenic Council is a coalition of historically African American fraternities and sororities. Furman currently recognizes one National Pan-Hellenic Council chapter, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The council's leaders uphold the community's standards, manage recruitment and work with other student organizations to host social events. It also serves as a liaison between members and the general campus community.

Alpha Kappa Alpha

Established in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha was the first sorority created for African-American women. The sorority is dedicated to creating a college experience that is meaningful and productive. Alpha Kappa Alpha participates in programs both on campus and off, including one major fundraiser, "So You Think You Can Stroll." The organization also won the Boundary Breaker award for promoting diversity and community service at Furman. Find Alpha Kappa Alpha on OrgSync.
