Our office works with the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) to eliminate prejudice and intergroup conflict. Furman NCBI is one of 50 campus affiliates in the U.S. and one of three in South Carolina. Through the methodology of the NCBI, participants become aware of misinformation about particular groups and learn to break down barriers between groups.
Our "Building Community Through Unity" workshops are hands-on,
interactive diversity workshops. We offer two different workshops:
The basic NCBI workshop is an interactive participatory program designed to identify and work through stereotypes and misinformation about other groups, reclaim pride in one's own groups, and learn effective ways to interrupt prejudice.
This program trains individuals to reframe issues that are polarizing a community, allowing groups to work toward concrete solutions. We can work with your group about a particular issue or teach you the model to work on any topic.
