We are excited that you have decided to attend Furman! To confirm your spot at our university, please complete the following steps by the appropriate deadline:
- Reserve a place in the class of 2018:
Take the first step to enrolling at Furman by submitting your $500 deposit. Send your deposit to:

- Take the new student survey:
Take a moment to tell us about yourself by completing the new student survey so that we can match you with the perfect advisor for your four years at Furman. The survey will be available for completion beginning mid-April.
- Apply for housing:
Furman is a residential campus. If you are not married or planning to live at home with your parents or guardians, you are required to live on campus in university housing. Be sure to review Furman's housing options before applying. If you would like to enhance your living experience in a unique learning environment, consider Furman's Engaged Living program. The housing application form will be available beginning May 14 and is due no later than June 30.
- Register for Summer Orientation:
Furman offers a hybrid approach to acclimating students to academics and college life—Summer Orientation and Fall Orientation. We encourage our students to attend both sessions. Summer Orientation is a two-day event that offers new students and parents an opportunity to learn about our academics, meet with academic advisors, conduct important placement activities and register for fall classes. Summer Orientation regristration deadline is Monday, June 2. The last day to make changes to your registration is Monday, June 9. Learn how to register for one of our five summer orientation programs.
If you are living outside of the United States, we understand that coming to summer orientation might not be an option. Please complete the unable to attend summer orientation form. One of our faculty advising counselors will contact you to assist you with course selection after you complete the form. Please know that once you arrive at Furman, you will be able to take advantage of all of the opportunities offered at Summer Orientation.
- Register for courses:
Since most international students are unable to attend Summer Orientation, you are required to select your courses and submit them for approval through the course preference website form. For the link to submit these preferences and learn more about the process, please see the Office for Study Away and International Education website. When you arrive in August, you will have the chance to meet with your academic advisor and change your course schedule, if necessary
- Complete our technology orientation:
Learn about the technology resources available at Furman and get your computer ready for our campus by completing our technology orientation. You will receive a technology packet in the mail with your network credentials and login information.
- Take our online language placement test:
At Furman, you're required to complete a foreign language sequence. To better assess your proficiency in French, German or Spanish, take our online language placement test. You will receive a password for this exam at the end of our technology orientation. If you've studied Latin in the past, be sure to complete our test specifically designed for that language. Placement exams for other languages, such as Chinese or Japanese, may be completed during fall orientation. International students who have not taken a language other than English do not need to complete this placement test. You can take your language placement test beginning May 12. Placement tests should be completed prior to attending Summer Orientation (or prior to registering for fall courses).
- Get your student visa:
- Submit a photo for your ID:
Send us a photograph suitable for your Furman ID card and we will have it ready for you when you arrive in the fall. The deadline to submit your photo is June 30.
- Submit your final high school transcript:

- Submit your test scores:
Hoping to replace an introductory course with your Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) test score? Find out if you scored high enough to earn credit.
If you did not designate Furman as your score recipient when you took the AP exam, be sure to arrange for your scores to be sent directly to us. Find out how at www.collegeboard.com. Be aware that the College Board charges a fee for this service. The College Board code for Furman University is 5222.
To send us your IB scores, you can request score reports through e-mail at email@example.com. Learn more at www.ibo.org.
- Register your vehicle:
Complete Furman's vehicle registration or waiver process to register your vehicle and obtain a parking decal. Even if you're not planning to bring a vehicle, you must submit this form to avoid paying parking fees.
- Enroll in paperless billing:
- Submit your medical/immunizations records:
Be sure to complete our three-step process to ensure we have your latest medical and immunization records. First, download our medical and immunization form as a PDF.
Once you have filled it out, use this form to complete our online form. You'll need your network username and password as well as the latest version of Internet Explorer to access this site. When you login, be sure to turn off your browser's pop-up blocker. You should be able to locate the "Medical History" and "Immunization Records" links on the left side of the page. Click each of these and complete the required forms.
Finally, bring a hard copy of your forms to summer orientation. You will turn them into Health Services. If you do not attend summer orientation, you should email or fax your forms to:
If you are unable to access the Internet and attend summer orientation, you may complete the online portion when you arrive at Furman. Bring a hard copy of the forms when you arrive in August. If these forms are not completed, you may not be able to move into your residence hall. If you have questions, contact us at internationalEd@furman.edu. - Book your flight to Furman:
Our international students are required to attend International Student Orientation, so be sure to book your flight in advance. You should arrive at Greenville Spartanburg Airport on August 13, 2014. Once you have booked your flight, complete our airport arrival form.
- Make your first tuition payment:
- Set up direct deposit for any refunds:
To ensure any refunds are deposited in your bank account, sign up for direct deposit through our Student Business Center. Follow our easy steps to sign up.
If you do not yet have a bank account in the United States, we will assist you with getting an account once you arrive in Greenville. After you do this, you may sign up for direct deposits.
- Complete the alcohol, drug, and sexual assault education program:
We have joined a number of the nation's top schools in offering AlcoholEdu for College as a component of our alcohol and sexual assault prevention initiative. Whether you abstain from alcohol or not, this program will help you make well-informed decisions about alcohol. You will receive an email with further instructions on how to complete this.
- Review the student handbook:

Be sure to review your financial aid so that you understand what is offered and what you will owe upon graduation. You can view your award package by clicking "MyFurman: Accept/Reject Financial Aid Award" in the navigation menu of our financial aid site.
- Attend International Student Orientation and Fall Orientation:
Furman offers two sessions to acclimate international students to academics and college life—International Student Orientation and Fall Orientation. Our international students are required to attend both orientation sessions. Keep in mind that you are required to arrive at Greenville Spartanburg Airport on August 13, 2014. After international orientation, freshmen orientation will begin.

Explore one of the world's most dynamic regions during a two-week journey with our faculty. Consider this trip if you are interested in taking courses in our Asian Studies department.

Apply to be a Summer Connections Scholar! Spend a week on campus exploring vocation through personal reflection, creative expression, faith, and service-learning in the community, all while having fun in the process! Space is limited, so don't wait to apply! The priority deadline is June 1, 2014.

Along with that documentation, be sure to complete our Initial Contact Form. Review of these documents may take three to four weeks. Once your information (both documentation and the Initial Contact Form) has been received, you will be contacted to arrange a telephone intake interview to discuss accommodations. Information may be sent at any time, but need to be received by June 30 to ensure accommodations are in place by the start of the fall semester.
