Engaged Living

Learn together.

Engaged Living: The First-Year Experience allows you the opportunity to select from one of five different academic programs all taught by Furman faculty and take a class or two with other Engaged Living students who live in your residence hall. So, you're all learning together! All classes meet a first-year seminar, general education, or elective requirement. You'll build close relationships with dedicated faculty and staff who are there to help you feel comfortable, encouraged, and supported, ensuring that you grow as a student and as a citizen of the world.

At Furman, "engaged learning" isn't just a tagline; it's an active, exciting way of understanding how to see the world and solve problems. For example, you may learn about an issue affecting the local community only to then leave the classroom and hear the firsthand stories from those affected. You'll make connections, engaged your mind, and begin to learn how to learn.

"The professors are great and are always willing to work with you. They really care, not only about your progress in the class but about you." ~ Heather Mentz - Class of 2014 ~
