Finding Your Life Purpose offers you the opportunity to critically reflect on why you are at Furman as well as your purpose and calling in life. You will consider what it means to live a life of significance while examining diverse perspectives on the interpretation of calling and determining how you can make a difference at Furman and in the world.
During the Fall 2013 semester, you will take FYS 1103: Finding Your Life Purpose (which fulfills the first-year seminar graduation requirement). You will be guided through critical reflection on the diverse
nature of your calling in life and will study various models which assist you with further defining your own sense of purpose.
Engaging Your Life Purpose Beyond the Classroom
Finding Your Life Purpose will invite you to spend the semester engaging in various vocational exploration and reflective activities such as a student retreat in the nearby mountains, a pilgrimage hike in Table Rock State Park, meals and mentoring with faculty guests, and other unique opportunities. These events are sponsored by Furman's Cothran Center for Vocational Reflection and connect you with class discussions, readings, and films.
