A Housing Primer

As a first-year student, or even as a transfer, students are not given much choice in where they live. However, after that first year, students are given some choices. Here's a primer that includes phrases you might hear your student mention and some bits of information about each type of housing so you can help her make the best choice.

Types of Housing

Residence Hall: These are large halls that typically house students on straight corridors. Some have common area bathrooms and some have semi-private bathrooms.

Apartments: This refers to housing for groups of four. They may have different configurations that include either two double bedrooms, or four single rooms.

Single Room
: These rooms are often sprinkled throughout the residence halls. Single rooms are also available as a part of an apartment or suite.

Greek Housing: Available within Lakeside Housing, Greek housing allows students to live among fellow members of their fraternity or sorority.
