We fund hundreds of internships and research opportunities all over the world. Furman has one of the few programs in the United States that directly funds student internships each summer, providing competitive fellowships for students who would otherwise receive little or no payment.
To be considered for these fellowships, you must obtain either a full-time summer internship with an organization or a full-time research position working with a faculty member at another university/institute; working 35 to 40 hours per week for at least 8 weeks. If you receive funding, you’ll be required to complete academic assignments that compliment what you’re learning in your summer experience.
FURMAN HOUSING**: Students who obtain local area full-time internships that last for at least 8 weeks are eligible for Furman campus housing at a discounted rate.
**Students must apply to Housing and Residence Life and indicate the summer session(s) desired on their housing application. Housing registration begins in January and the housing application deadline is in early April. Students will be notified of their housing status April.

Your stipend will vary based on the amount of pay provided by the sponsoring organization and your demonstrated financial need. Generally, our fellowships are between $2,500 and $3,500. If you are receiving $3,500 or more from an organization, you will not be eligible to receive a fellowship.
You'll be alerted via email between late-March and mid-April regarding the status of your application. If you've received approval from our faculty committee, you'll be asked to attend a meeting in April to complete the required paperwork.
If you are awarded a fellowship, you'll be required to post weekly to an on-line forum, write a reflection paper, provide an evaluation of the internship, and be available to speak about your experience at Furman Engaged Day and other events.
