Class of 2013
Hometown: Columbus, GA

It's really insightful to see how different staff members at the Greenville Children's Museum engage and interact differently with kids. It helped me learn you can educate children outside of the classroom and there's a variety of ways to engage them in different topics.

My internship: Greenville Children's Museum

  • Day-to-day duties:

I help the museum's staff by watching the kids and showing them what to do during projects. Essentially, I help these students engage in different exhibits.

  • Cool projects:

There are just so many fun things to do here that focusing and doing homework can be a challenge. On a nice day, it's hard not to go kick a soccer ball, go hiking or mountain biking.

  • How I got the position:

One of my friends interned at the museum and told me about it. Furman's director of internships, Susan Zeiger, helped me edit my cover letter and resume. She even sent in my application for me.

Helpful Tips

  • The search:

Utilize the resources posted on Furman's internship website, and find out what other students have been doing. That's a good place to start.

  • Applying:

Get help from Furman staff members, like Director of Internships Susan Zeiger, because they'll proofread your resume and make suggestions.

  • On the job:

Dress appropriately and show up on time. If you're not sure of something, don't be shy. Just ask.
