Through internships, our students learn to think critically, research and analyze information, communicate effectively, contribute and collaborate, and gain relevant experience. Internships give our students the chance to learn about the search and application process, explore possible avenues available after Furman, experience organizational culture, gain confidence in their abilities, and use classroom concepts to achieve workplace solutions.
Our office will work with students referred by faculty to talk with them about their interests, skills, and learning objectives. We then assist them in using Furman’s connections, databases, and resources to successfully find and apply for an internship, including customizing their resume/profile and cover letter. Our office also coordinates the summer stipend program. You'll see in our 17-18 Internship Annual Report that we serve students from all majors.
Whether an internship originates from our office or your department, we can partner with you to ensure that our internships include academic components and projects to meet your department’s requirements.
Faculty Access the Greenville and Connections Database
Faculty, you are welcome to register in the Furman Internship Database. This will give you access to both the Greenville (local) and Furman Connections (summer only, outside Greenville) databases to see internship descriptions and application requirements.
Students who are pursuing an internship to earn academic credit, will need to get the assigned professor's approval and the professor will then submit a completed individualized instruction approval form to Academic Records. Download the form as a PDF.
