Wellness Program

Mission Statement

The mission of the Furman University Wellness Program is to provide environmental, social, and individual support to encourage the Furman community to engage in healthy lifestyles that promote optimal well-being.

Program Features

Relative to program offerings, "the community" includes covered and non-covered employees and their spouses/partners.  Dependents are not currently included.

Biometric Screenings, Risk Stratification, and HRA - 2015 implementation except as noted

  • Biometric screenings are provided and encouraged for all members of the community
    • A1c, blood glucose, cholesterol, and waist circumference are measured
    • Risk stratification based on biometric results and tobacco use.
    • At an aggregate level, stratifcation will be used to design and implement appropriate wellness programming
    • At the individual level, stratification will also be used to determine health care provider (HCP) visits required to obtain insurance premium reductions.  These required visits are designed to promote health monitoring and include visits to a physician, physician assistant, family nurse practitioner, registered nurse, or designated health coach.  Based on 2015 risk stratification, individuals in the two highest risk levels (levels 4 and 5) are required to complete one HCP visit in 2016 in addition to completing the HRA and biometric screening to obtain the 2017 insurance premium reduction
  • HRA completion encouraged for all members of the community
  • Follow-up materials and "Know your Numbers" workshops delivered by GHS
