Minutes: Policies and Procedures Committee
Friday, April 23, 2008

Present: DeJong (chair), Gabbert (recorder), Horney, Lewis, DeLancy, Chesebro, Berg

Minutes from April 16th were presented and approved as amended.

Two non-faculty polices have been received (311.1 and 314.2) and will be reviewed by B. Berg.  DeJong will ask Berg to follow up with all non-faculty policies that have not yet been received.

File 152.2 Evaluation of Faculty
Status approved suggestions from the last meeting and the policy will go to the faculty for the May meeting

File 157.4 Probationary Appointment
Additional changes were suggested and they will be passed on to the Faculty Status Committee.

File 168.1 Sabbatical Leaves
Several questions were raised that will be passed on to Status:

  • Can probationary faculty apply for full year sabbatical?
  • Are probationary faculty members eligible for fully-funded year long sabbaticals?

File 190.1 Curriculum Committee Operation Procedures
S. Ritter joined the committee for discussion of the policy.  Discussion focused on whether there was too much detail in the policy about the process of proposing a course rather than simply focusing on the committee operating procedures.  Additional suggestions were made for individual guidelines and the policy statement.  S. Ritter will take these concerns and suggestions back to the Curriculum Committee..

File 148.1 Salary Continuation at Death
There was discussion on the meaning of the term “accrued salary”.   Additional clarification is needed for this policy.

Our next regular meeting is scheduled for April 30th at 1:00pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Paula Gabbert
Policies and Procedures Committee
