Nominating Committee
Annual Report, 2009-2010

The Nominating Committee met a total of six times and conducted other business by email during the 2009-10 academic year.

Replacements for several students and faculty members who were unable to serve in the capacity for which they were elected in the spring of 2009 were nominated at the September and October faculty meetings

The main task of the Nominating Committee was addressed in February and March. The committee nominated faculty members for Faculty Chair, Vice Chair and Recorder.  In addition, the committee nominated 122 faculty members for service on 19 standing faculty committees, the Graduate Council and the University Traffic Board. A total of 55 of these 122 positions were filled with faculty members who had not served on the committee during 2009-10.  The Nominating Committee also nominated a new chair for 16 of the 19 standing faculty committees.

Because we are still waiting for nominations from the Association of Furman Student President (who is now elected too late in the year to conduct this business prior to the final faculty meeting), the student nominees for standing faculty committees (except those who are remaining from the 2009-10 academic year) were not selected in time for the April faculty meeting.  These nominations will be handled over the summer and will be presented at the September 2010 faculty meeting.

The chair would like to thank committee members, Ken Abernethy, Cleve Fraser, Erin Hahn, Les Hicken and Cherie Maiden for their outstanding service throughout the year.

Carmela Epright, Chair
