The Nominating Committee met a total of seven times and conducted other business by email during the 2008-09 academic year.
Replacements for several students and faculty members who were unable to serve in the capacity for which they were elected in the spring of 2008 were nominated at the September faculty meeting. In April the Nominating Committee, acting at the request of the Dean of the Faculty, suggested three faculty members to serve on an advisory committee in the selection of a new Associate Academic Dean.
The main task of the Nominating Committee was addressed in January and February. The committee nominated faculty members for Faculty Chair, Vice Chair and Recorder. In addition, the committee nominated 122 faculty members for service on 19 standing faculty committees, the Graduate Council and the University Traffic Board. A total of 47 of these 122 positions were filled with faculty members who had not served on the committee during 2008-9. The Nominating Committee also nominated a new chair for 12 of the 19 standing faculty committees.
Due to the new calendar and how it fits with the election of the Association of Furman Student officers, the student nominees for standing faculty committees were not selected in time for the April faculty meeting. These nominations will be handled by the new Nominating Committee in time for the meeting in September, 2009.
The chair would like to thank committee members John Barrington, Carmela Epright, Cleve Fraser, Dennis Haney, and Les Hicken for their willing service throughout the year.
