Individualized Curriculum Program Committee
Annual Report, 2010-2011

During the 2010-2011 academic school year, the ICP committee met two times, once during each semester prior to the preregistration period to discuss new student ICP proposals.  In the fall we received five student proposals.  We approved two of the proposals and rejected three. In the spring semester we had two student proposals, both of which were approved.  The committee also regularly communicated via email to approve or reject any changes in the existing ICP students’ requirements.

An issue that came up during this year was that the Communications Department expressed concern that throughout the years of the existence of the ICP, the role of departments has changed.  The Communications Department argued that in the past department chairs had the ability to reject or approve of ICP proposals and that this was a crucial part of maintaining the integrity of the program.  In response the ICP committee reread the faculty constitution’s description of the role of the committee, where it determines that the committee “is autonomous in its decision on individual cases.”

The chair wishes to thank her colleagues for their work on the committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Angélica Lozano-Alonso (Modern Languages and Literatures, chair)
Glen Halva-Neubauer (Political Science)
David Hollis (Biology)
Alicia Powers (HES)
Bruce Schoonmaker (Music)
Karni Bhati (English)
