Faculty Constitution Description

Article V., Sec. 5, (b) Curriculum. This committee shall study proposals involving addition and deletion of specific courses in the light of Furman's purposes, policies, and curricular goals. The committee shall submit its recommendations to the faculty. One member is to serve concurrently on the Academic Polices Committee.

How to Submit a Course Proposal

  • Visit the web-based Course Proposal System
  • Consult with the Collections Development Librarian to ensure appropriate resources are available for the course. 
  • Notify your department chair that you intend to submit a course proposal. 
  • Observe the proposal deadlines:
For the Spring 2014 (regular term): 
Monday, September 30, 2013, so courses can be considered by the October 2013 faculty meeting in time for Spring registration (regular).

For May Experience 2014 (on-campus courses): 
Monday, September 30, 2013, for on-campus courses (to be considered at the October 2013 faculty meeting).
For May Experience 2014 (Study Away courses): 
Monday, September 23, 2013 for travel study courses for which the travel has already been approved (to be considered at the October 2013 faculty meeting).

For the Fall 2014 (regular term):
Tuesday, February 18, 2014, so courses can be considered by the March 2014 faculty meeting in time for Fall registration.

For the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 (Study Away courses):
Monday, October 28, 2013, so courses can be considered by the November 2013 faculty meeting.

For the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 (FYS and FYW courses):
Monday, April 7, 2014, so courses can be considered by the April 2014 faculty meeting. 

Please note that these are firm deadlines. Courses submitted past these deadlines will not be considered before the respective registration periods.
