Cultural Life Committee
Annual Report, 2002-2003
The Cultural Life Committee reviewed proposals on a weekly basis. To date, 196 event proposals have been reviewed, with 176 being granted Cultural Life Program (CLP) credit.
The Committee made the following revisions in the CLP Guidelines for CLP Events:
1.) Added the following three types of events not generally accepted for CLP credit to the third guideline:
Events that promote or primarily focus on an organization or company
Events that are primarily fundraising functions
Recent (1997 - current) popular films that do not include a culturally significant lecture and a question and answer session following the film
Added the statement "Generally, events should not be held during typical class hours (8AM-3PM)" to the fourth guideline.
The Committee made the following revisions in the CLP Guidelines for CLP Proposals:
Included the statement (in bold font) "Please review your proposal for accuracy in grammar and content. Poorly written proposals will not be accepted" in the third guideline.
Included the statement (in bold font) "Proposals that must be corrected for grammar errors must be returned to the CLP Manager within 48 hours, or no credit will be granted for the program" in the fifth guideline.
The sixth guideline regarding CLP credit for long-term, off-campus events was removed entirely.
Overall, the committee found that the on-line proposal system and CLP web site worked well. The committee urges all event sponsors to read the guidelines prior to submission of their proposals.
The Chair would like to thank all of the committee members for their hard work during the year.
Respectfully submitted,
Suzy Summers, Chair
