Appeals Committee
Annual Report, 2011-2012

The Appeals Committee met ten times during the year, once per month from August 2011 to April 2012. Thirty-nine appeals of academic regulations were reviewed. A total of 30 appeals were approved, eight were denied, and one was tabled (but was denied after resubmission).

Ten appeals were related to general education requirements. Eight were approved and two were denied.

Seven appeals were related to academic suspension. Four were approved and three were denied.

Eight appeals were related to foreign language accommodations - all were approved.

One appeal was related to a Mathematics and Formal Reasoning accommodation – it was approved.

Six appeals were related to the 28-hour rule. Four were approved, one was tabled, but after resubmission it was denied.

Two appeals requested retroactive withdrawal from courses. Both appeals were denied.

Two appeals requested Pass/No Pass enrollment for a class the students’ major. Both appeals were approved.

Two appeals were related to dual enrollment – both were approved.

One appeal requested Natural World with Laboratory (NWL) credit for courses transferred to Furman – it was approved.

The Appeals Committee will meet two more times before Fall term: May 4 (prior to commencement) and June 1.

A log of all 2011-12 appeal results has been maintained by the Chairperson of this Committee and by the Associate Academic Dean.
