Appeals Committee
Annual Report, 2008-2009
Since May 7, 2007 (the date of the last report to the faculty), the Appeals Committee has met 10 times. In that time, the committee has reviewed 45
appeals. 40 of those appeals were approved, and 5 were denied.
The distribution of types of appeals (and their decisions) was as follows:
17 appeals dealt with either suspension or dismissal from Furman University (13 approved, 4 denied),
3 challenges of a GER (3 approved),
9 appeals of the 28-hour rule (8 approved, 1 denied),
6 requests related to pass/fail or retroactive withdrawal from a course (6 approved),
5 disabilities-related language appeals (5 approved),
2 appeals of the asian-african requirement (2 approved),
1 CLP-related appeal (1 approved),
and 2 miscellaneous appeals (2 approved).
The committee would like to thank Linda Bartlett and Tammie Bradley for
their diligent efforts related to the work of this committee.
