Appeals Committee
Annual Report, 2005-2006

Since May 1, 2005 (the date of the last report to the faculty), the Appeals Committee has met 9 times. In that time, the committee has reviewed 38 appeals. 30 of those appeals were approved, 6 were denied, and 2 were tabled. The distribution of types of appeals (and their decisions) was as follows: 7 reversal of suspension or dismissal appeals (2 approved, 5 denied), 17 challenges of a GER (17 approved, 0 denied), 8 appeals of the 28-hour rule (7 approved, 1 tabled), and 6 other requests (4 approved, 1 denied, and 1 tabled).

From October 2004 through April 2005, the appeals committee received and reviewed 33 appeals. From October 2005 through April 2006, the appeals committee received and reviewed 22 appeals. Therefore, the number of appeals continued to decline, reflecting the excellent guidance students receive from Dean Bartlett’s office. The committee appreciates the work of Linda Bartlett and Tammie Bradley in preparing and assembling the paperwork the committee reviews and discusses to make its decisions.

Respectfully submitted,

Beth Pontari (chair)
The current committee: Stanley Crowe, Jan Kiely, Julian Reed, Harry Shucker, Charles Tompkins, and Mark Woodard
