Appeals Committee
Annual Report, 2003-2004
The Appeals Committee has met 7 times so far this year to consider student appeals. Thirty-six new appeals were considered. Of this number 31 were approved and 5 were denied. The distribution of appeals (and favorable decisions) was approximately as follows: reversal of suspension/dismissal, 18 (16 granted); challenge of a GER, 7 (6 granted); challenge of a grade including retroactive changes, 3 (2 granted); other various requests, 8 (7 granted).
It is interesting to note that two years ago at this time of the year there were 86 appeals, compared to 36 presently. This reflects, among other things, the excellent job Dean Bartlett’s office is doing in counseling students. Special thanks are due to Linda Bartlett and Tammie Bradley for guiding students through the process and for preparing and assembling the reams of paperwork we reviewed and discussed.
Respectfully submitted,
William Brantley (chair),
