Admissions Committee
Annual Report, 2011-2012
Admissions Committee: Kevin Hutson, Aaron Markham (student), Adrian Massei, Owen McFadden, Matt Olson (Chair), Pat Pecoy, Brad Pochard, Michael Svec, Forrest Stuart, Wade Worthen.
The Admissions Committee met formally eight times during the 2011-2012 school year. We spent significant time working toward a mutual understanding of how this committee might productively serve as a liaison among the faculty, the Office of Admission, and the Office of Financial Aid. We worked especially hard at establishing better lines of communication to, through, and from the committee and the Office of Admission. Furthermore, as a result of the university's new relationship with Christ Church Episcopal School, the Admissions Committee scheduled more frequent and regular meetings to be kept better informed--and to advise on--changes to admissions policies and procedures.
We were involved in helping the Admission Office with its Faculty/Student match communications. We were kept continually informed of the status of the current recruiting class, and we discussed different activities for Accepted Student Days. Finally, we began preliminary conversations pertaining to the issue of undocumented students who apply to Furman.
We also paid close attention to the work of the Retention Committee, chaired by Paula Gabbert, in an effort to monitor the work of the current freshman class. We are all concerned that the academic performance of our current freshmen might indicate a need to revise admissions policies.
The chair would like to thank the members of the committee for their work and input this year.
