Can I register day-of-race?
Yes! Day-of-race registration is from 6:45am to 7:30am at the Paladin Stadium Plaza. The price is $20.

Is there an online registration option?
In an effort to keep costs down, there is no on-line registration.

Can I download the registration form from the website?
Yes, you may download and print a copy of the race registration form by going to www.furmanfirst.com and clicking on “Corporate Shield 5K” link on the left side of the FIRST main page.

I didn’t see where to indicate my shirt size on the entry form.  Can I reserve a shirt in a certain size?
The Furman 5K is a low cost event with the primary intention of promoting participation.  To keep costs as low as possible, there is not a t-shirt for the 2014 Furman 5K.

Can I register for a friend or relative?
No.  Each person must sign his/her own waiver.  Parents must sign the waiver for anyone under 18 years of age.

I see that Furman’s 5K is a Corporate Shield event.  What is Corporate Shield?
Corporate Shield, which began in 1979, is a competition under the auspices of the Greenville Track Club (GTC) for companies, civic organizations and educational institutions in upstate South Carolina which promotes running and walking. Points are scored for performance and participation in four categories: Open, Female, Masters (40 and older), Grandmasters (50 and over) and Seniors (60 and over).   Corporate Shield provides a friendly competition between upstate companies and other organizations in an effort to promote fitness. While excellent performance is recognized, the emphasis is on participation— either running or walking.   If you have more questions, the GTC website should answer most of your questions about scheduling so check it out at:  www.greenvilletrackclub.com.

Can I get a refund if I register but don't run?
No. We are unable to provide refunds so once you have registered we cannot offer you a refund.

What happens if I become injured after I enter and cannot participate? There are no medical comps, rollovers or refunds, nor can you transfer your registration to another person.

Can I transfer my race bib?
No. This is mostly for safety reasons. We want to be able to identify a runner if medical assistance is needed.  It is also embarrassing during awards when "Jeff" who is really "Sally" wins the female 40-49 division. A participant’s registration is non-transferable.

Where is packet pick up and during what hours?
Race number pickup will be held at the Paladin Stadium concourse on race morning.  Please arrive early (6:45am – 7:30am).  The 5K starts at 8:00am.

Is there a time limit?
There are several events scheduled on campus for Saturday 12, April so the finish time will be taken down at 9:00am; one hour after the start of the 5K.

Can I walk?
YES! Walkers are very welcome. All we ask is that you obey the rules of the course and walk no more than two people abreast so that others may pass easily. We ask that you start closer to the back of the line to allow runners to make their best time.  Walkers will start at the same time as runners but are advised, for safety reasons, to start their race at the back of the pack. Keep in mind that the finish time will be taken down at 9:00am; one hour after the start of the 5K.

Can I view the course before the race?
A course map is available here.

Will the roads be closed to traffic?
No.  There is always something taking place on campus and we are unable to close the roads for the Furman 5K.  Every effort will be made for the safety of the 5K participants; however, there will be vehicular traffic on the roads during the Furman 5K.

Can I run with headphones or ear buds?
Many runners and walkers use earphones during physical activity; however, for safety reasons, we discourage the use of headphones on the course.

Can I run or walk with a baby jogger?
Due to the narrow path and the steep hill on the course behind the Furman lake, for safety reasons, baby joggers are not allowed as part of the Furman 5K.

Can I run with my dog?
No.  Please do not run with your dog on the course.  We like dogs, but they are safer at home. This answer covers all animals BTW.

Will bikes or skates be allowed on the courses?
No.  Skates and bikes are not allowed on either course because they can create a potential safety hazard.

Is there an age limit?
Anyone who is capable of walking or jogging a 5K within an hour is welcome to enter the Furman 5K.

Where is the water stop?
Refreshments will be available after the 5K.  There will not be a water stop along the 5K course.

Where is the start and how do I get there?
The start and finish of the Furman 5K are along Furman’s scenic tree-lined mall.  A map of the course is here.

Can I take a shower after the race?
Bathroom facilities are available at Paladin Stadium before, during and after the 5K.  There are no shower facilities in Paladin Stadium.

When do I get my t-shirt?
To keep costs as low as possible, there is not a t-shirt for the 2014 Furman 5K.

Is packet pick up mandatory?
Yes.  You need your race bib to participate in the Furman 5K.  Your race bib must be worn on the front or you will not be allowed on the course and you will not receive a finishing time or qualify for age group awards.

Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?
Yes, as long all required information was properly filled out on the registration form and the waiver has been signed in advance.

Can my race packet be mailed to me?
No.  All participants must pick up their race bib on race morning.

Where can I park for the event?
Ample parking is available around the football stadium.  There will be sign and volunteers directing you to parking.

Who will receive age group awards?
Hand-crafted ceramic mugs presented after the race to corporate teams and open, masters, grandmasters and senior categories.  The Furman 5K is a Corporate Shield event; age group awards will not be awarded. Awards will be presented to the Top 3 Open, Masters (40+), Grandmasters (50+) and Female corporate teams. Individual Awards will be presented to the top 3 males & females in Open, Masters, Grandmasters and Senior categories.

Will I receive a finisher’s medal?
No.  We are trying to keep the Furman 5K a fun, low-key and affordable event for everyone.

What about race results?
The Furman 5K uses start or gun time to determine the finish times and the results.  The Furman 5K does not use chip timing.

Will race results be posted?
Yes.  Race results will be posted on the Furman FIRST website by 2:00pm on Saturday 12, April.
