A New Journey for Furman Athletics Begins

In the spring of 2014, Furman's first lacrosse team will begin its Division 1 season. The men's team is led by 35-year veteran of collegiate coaching Richie Meade. Meade most recently served as head coach for the United States Naval Academy men's team. Women's lacrosse will begin the following year, led by head coach Rachael Whitten.

As with any new program, Furman Lacrosse seeks funds to build support to provide all the resources necessary to compete at the highest Division 1 level.

"My family and I are very excited for the opportunity to join the Furman community. I am grateful to President Kohrt and Gary Clark for their faith and trust in me. We will build our program with integrity, substance, and toughness. Our goal will be to compete with passion, skill and honor, and to graduate individuals who will make a difference in the world and reflect the values of a great American university." - Richie Meade

"I am extremely honored to be named the first head coach of the Furman women's lacrosse program. I can't wait to create traditions and a legacy for Furman that have the potential to be there forever." - Rachel Whitten
