Local Attractions

One of Furman's most attractive features is its location. Nestled in the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with their multitude of hiking and camping opportunities, the campus is only a short drive from such cities as Asheville and Charlotte. You can visit Sassafras Mountain, which at 3,544 ft is the highest point in South Carolina. From the summit, it's possible to view four states: Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Visit the historic Revolutionary War battlefield of Cowpens or the numerous fresh peach and apple orchards in the upstate. No matter what your interests, you'll find something to do within easy reach of Furman's campus.

Furman University is located just 5 miles from downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Greenville is in close proximity to Atlanta, Asheville, and Charlotte and is easily accessible by road, rail, and air. Hotels near campus are happy to accommodate visitors to Furman; several offer discounted rates for people associated with Furman. Greenville, with a metropolitan population of over 750,000, is a beautiful community full of things to do and see!

Downtown Greenville offers plenty of places to shop while taking in the quaint downtown atmosphere and enjoying numerous restaurants, coffee shops and bars. There are also seasonal festivals throughout the year. The downtown area features the Greenville County Museum of Art, the Upcountry History Museum, several small theaters, the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, and the BI-LO Center.

The city of Greenville opens its arms to Furman visitors and provides them with a wonderful selection of entertainment, restaurants, and special events. From Falls Park on the Reedy River to the historic West End district, to one of the largest shopping malls in South Carolina, Greenville is sure to have whatever you need to make your event experience complete.
