Timely Warnings

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (“Clery Act”), the Furman University Police Department (FUPD) provides notification to the University community in the form of Timely Warnings when a Clery Act crime that represents a serious or continuing threat to the campus community occurs on campus, on public property immediately adjacent to campus, or non-campus property owned or controlled by the University at the time of the incident.  These notifications may be shared by campus email and text messaging.  The purpose of the notification is to aid in the prevention of similar crimes by alerting the community about the incident and providing information on what actions people can take to diminish their chances of being victimized.

Emergency Notifications

In addition to issuing Timely Warnings, Furman University is committed to ensuring the campus community receives timely, accurate, and useful information in the event of an emergency situation on campus or in the local area that poses a risk to the health and safety of campus community members.   To support this commitment, Furman University has invested in several multi-modal forms of communications that allow University Police to distribute emergency notices in the event of a critical incident or dangerous situation.  Emergency Notifications may be sent via campus email, text messaging, campus digital signs, and other methods.
