New Pedestrian Friendly Zone
Over this last summer, several improvements were made to
Milford Mall and the Library Circle (Sterling Circle) to improve pedestrian
safety. Milford Mall was renovated with the installation of pavers and
bollards at the entrance to Furman Mall. This area is being made safer
for pedestrians by preventing normal vehicular traffic from entering this
heavily trafficked area. Bicycles and golf carts will be still allowed in
this area. New sidewalks have also been added across Furman Mall to
improve pedestrian access to Milford Mall from the parking lots just north and
south of the Chapel.
In addition, a traffic gate has been added on the road that
leads to Sterling Circle from the Trone Student Center. This gate will be
used to control vehicular access to this area of campus. Access will
still be needed for maintenance, deliveries, events and other special
situations but the intent is to limit vehicle use in this part of campus as
much as possible. The gate will become active on September
5th. If you feel that you need vehicle access to this area of campus,
please complete form linked below and return it to the Furman Police Department
via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once your form has been submitted, someone from the Furman
University Police Department will contact you regarding your request.
goal is to provide a safer environment for pedestrians and we thank you for
your patience and understanding as we implement these changes.
