Firearms, weapons, and explosives

Firearms are not allowed on university property. The possession of a firearm on the campus is a violation of South Carolina state law. There are no provisions at this time to store firearms for the purpose of sport. Fireworks, air guns, BB guns, pellet guns and paint ball guns are also prohibited.

Missing person protocol

Most missing person reports in the university environment can result from a student changing their normal routine and failing to inform roommates or friends of this change. Reports of missing persons should be made to the University Police Department (294-2111) if the person missing is not found within a reasonable time or immediately if there is information that the person could be at personal risk.  Do not wait 24 hours.  All reports made to the University Police Department of missing persons are followed up with an on-going investigation. Parents are normally notified  8  hours, dependent on circumstances, of unresolved missing person reports. If you would like a confidential source/person to be notified, send the Director of University Police an email, and this will be added to department info files and will be held as confidential information.  Missing persons are reported to NCIC (nationwide law enforcement network) if the person is not found within a reasonable time (less than 8 hours).
