How does the process work? 

Full and part-time staff members as well as any faculty member are asked to nominate a Furman staff member from any department (does not need to be a direct colleague) for the honor of winning "Staff Member of the Year." The nomination letters will be reviewed by an anonymous committee and paired down to a small group of top nominees. The top nominees will be announced one week prior to the spring Staff Recognition Event.  At the recognition event, Furman's president will announce the Staff Member of the Year whom will be chosen from the top nominees.

What will the top nominees and overall winner receive?

The top nominees will receive:

  • Overall campus recognition
  • A plaque recognizing their excellent service to Furman for the  academic year
  • Recognition at the spring Staff Recognition Event 
  • Considered for the Staff Member of the Year overall award

Staff Member of the Year will receive:

  • Overall campus recognition
  • A plaque recognizing them as the winner of the Staff Member of the Year Award
  • Recognition at the spring Staff Recognition Event 
  • Recognition at Fall Convocation as the Staff Member of the Year
  • Invitation to the Fall Convocation lunch
  • Invitation to Staff Member of the Year and family to dinner at White Oaks with Furman's President

How do I nominate?

Complete the form below and click submit. The anonymous committee will be sent your nomination to review once the deadline has passed.

May I nominate more than one person?

Yes, you may nominate as many staff members as you would like, but please only nominate each person once.


 Tips for the nomination letter

The anonymous committee will choose the top nominees based on how well they have exemplified the desired criteria, so please be sure to articulate how they have demonstrated the criteria with examples of their work, interaction with others, and support of Furman University. (see criteria below)

Nomination criteria

Required: Full time employee of at least 3 years

Employee may also demonstrate the following:

  • Excellence in overall work performance
  • Positive morale through supportive attitude and by providing service to others
  • An effort to improve self as well as to develop and recognize others
  • Initiative and creativity resulting in improved operating efficiency of the Department and University
  • A desire to enhance the image of the Department and University
  • Leadership and initiative qualities
  • Dependability
