OLLI Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a group of OLLI members whose focus is a certain area of interest and social interaction. Several SIGs are already in place and new SIGs are encouraged to form any time. You do not need to register for SIGs and there is no fee. For more information about each group, get in touch with the contact person listed. To form a new SIG, complete this form or pick one up in the OLLI Office. Questions? Contact Nancy Kennedy.

The following SIGs are already in place and ready to welcome interested OLLI members:

The Bridge Group is for players with some experience.  This group currently meets on Mondays, 1:30-4 p.m., at The Woodlands.  More groups may form with enough interest.

Contact:  Cathy Dwyer

Coffee and Conversations provides an opportunity for its participants to discuss current topics of interest on Sunday Mornings. All topics for conversation are contributed by the participants. This group meets the first and third Sundays of the month from 10:00-Noon in the OLLI Office building.

Contact: Dan Kappel or Gary Aten

Mah Jongg is for experienced players who would like to get together weekly to play Mah Jongg.  This group meets on Wednesdays, 1:30-3:30, at The Woodlands at Furman.

Contact:  Barb Rusch at rbrusch@bellsouth.net or Cathy Dwyer at cathd65@aol.com

The Meditation SIG exists to provide a suitable environment for meditation (contemplation within the mind) in order to develop the needed skills to maintain peace and happiness in one's life and all around.  This is an open, non-interfering and accommodative setup.  Everyone meditates as they prefer, and a small amount of time may be set aside for the exchange of ideas.  This group meets Wednesdays, 3:15-4:15 p.m. in OLLI Office 110.

Contact:  Vegesena Prudhvi Raju (Raju) at vprudhviraju@yahoo.com or 864-380-3616.

This Sig, Mind and Body Consciousness, is designed as a group discussion of being more authentic and learning to live in the present.  The forum is to bring you closer to yourself and aimed toward newer mind-body healing for better harmony and balance.  Bankim Shah, will be a part of the group sharing his life experiences. This met through the summer and will resume in Winter 2012.  Contact Carole Core at carolecore@juno.com.

OLLI Consort is for experienced recorder players.  The group gives OLLI members the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of ensemble playing, advance their skills, and occasionally perform for others.  This group meets every other week at the OLLI Office building or Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. Schedule is set each term by participants.  Contact:  Sharon Howell at  5jeeps@bellsouth.net or Judy Brooks at  hykrz@bellsouth.net
