Hillary Taylor Furman University

Hillary is a senior from Columbia, SC. She is a Psychology major with a concentration in Poverty Studies. She became interested in the lab because she wanted to see what it was like to do psychology research! She got to learn “the AWESOMENESS that is embodied cognition, work with really awesome kids, and got to use power tools to build the stimuli we used!!” She is actively involved with numerous campus groups, such as Psychology Club, HOLA (Furman’s Hispanic Awareness Group), Exploration of Vocal Ministry Program, Wesley Fellowship (United Campus Ministry Group), Student Intern at the office of the Chaplain, Senior Order, Religious Council, and member of the Furman rock band “A Random Act of Harmony.”

Melinda Cleveland

Melinda Cleveland Furman University

Melinda is a senior Psychology major from Zionsville, IN. She was interested in the lab because she loves working with children! She has a strong desire to do work after graduating that involves “benefiting the needs of children, whether it be in a daycare, an orphanage, or as a counselor.” She says that “the learning lab gave me insight into the necessary research required for creating establishments and organizations that truly work for the good of children.” She studied abroad in South Africa, concentrating on the poverty issues at hand. She enjoys singing and playing piano, and has been the Women’s Chorale manager for the past two years. She loves to spend time in fellowship with her friends, church community, and family!
