Title: Portable Digital Assistant (PDA) and Smartphone Policy
Applicable: Furman University (Students, Faculty and Staff)

Background: PDA and smartphone devices have become more prevalent on campus, and as their numbers have increased so has the variety of such devices. Since there are now so many different types of PDA and smartphone device, ITS can no longer provide detailed configuration assistance beyond basic settings for such devices to work with the campus email and calendar systems.
Policy: Information Technology Services will support smartphone/PDA users by providing settings for campus email and calendar functionality.
Guidelines:

If the smartphone or PDA is capable of synchronizing with Furman’s e-mail system, ITS will assist the user in configuring their device to synchronize with their Furman e-mail account by providing appropriate settings for the Furman email system. Data transfer is the responsibility of the user. ITS may provide documentation for the setup and synchronization of PDA and smartphone devices compatible with Furman's electronic mail system.
- If the smartphone or PDA is capable of synchronizing with Furman’s calendaring system, ITS will assist the user in configuring their device to synchronize with their Furman calendar by providing appropriate settings for the Furman calendar system.. Data transfer is the responsibility of the user. ITS may provide documentation for the setup and synchronization of PDA and smartphone devices compatible with Furman's calendaring system.

Any hardware problems should be directed to the manufacturer of the device. ITS offers no hardware troubleshooting or repair.
