Title: Guest Network Accounts
Applicable: Furman University Guests
Contacts: IT Service Center ext. 3277
Background: In the interest of campus network security and control of virus activity, Information Technology Services requires a network log-in to use Furman-owned computers, and to access the campus wireless network. Furman students, faculty, and staff, are each issued a unique network ID (NetID.) to access University technology services. This policy was created to address the growing need to provide access for University guests.
Policy: Information Technology Services will strive to accommodate visitors, conferences,
and workshops that require access to designated Furman technology resources.
Guidelines:
- Visitors, conferences, and workshops may request a temporary guest account for access to designated guest technology services (e.g., the FU-Events wireless network.)
- The IT Service Center will provide guest accounts for visitors with appropriate identification. Special simplified accommodations can be made for Furman sponsored groups with at least 2 days notice.
-
Information Technology Services will strive to accommodate the needs of guests, provided timely services for current University faculty, staff, and students are not compromised.
-
As with any personal account, guests issued an individual guest account must not share their username or password with anyone.
-
All guests are responsible for material originating from their guest account. Any vulgar, inappropriate or harassing material originating from an account could result in the termination of the account, disciplinary action and/or possible criminal charges. For more information please refer to the
