Furman provides a number of technology tools to aid collaboration.
Blogs
ITS provides a free Wordpress blog server for faculty and staff use. See our ITS Self Help Guide, or contact the IT Service Center for more about Furman blogs.
Box
The Furman Box is our premiere collaboration tool. All students, faculty, and staff have access to Box accounts. You can share information and have threaded discussions with colleagues on campus, and also with people outside the campus community. For more information about Box, please see our IT Self Help Guide or contact the IT Service Center.
The Furman WIKI
The Furman WIKI lets students, faculty and staff build collaborative web sites. The Furman WIKI lets you create a site that is open to the public (like Wikipedia), or have restricted viewing and editing (e.g., for a single class.) The IT Self Help Guide is an example of a public Furman Wiki. For more information about Furman Wikis, please see the IT Self Help Guide, or contact the IT Service Center.
Moodle
All Furman classes automatically have a space in our Moodle Learning Management System For more information about Moodle, see our IT Self Help Guide, or contact the IT Service Center.
OrgSync
Do you work with students and student organizations? OrgSync is a collaboration tool licensed by the Student Government Association for student organizations. OrgSync helps student organizations manage their finances and encourage member participation.
Shared Network Drives
Each Furman department has a network storage space for sharing information within the department (a.k.a., "the Q: Drive".) This space is not intended for personal file storage, and is only accessible using a Furman Net ID and password. For most uses we recommend using the Furman Box rather than shared network drives. For more information about using network shares, see our IT Self Help Guide
Virtual Private Networking (VPN)
Virtual Private Networking (VPN) lets off-campus faculty and staff securely connect to protected Furman network resources. These resources include shared network drives and campus administrative systems. For most, the Furman Box may be a better solution than VPN with shared network drives. For more information about VPN, contact the IT Service Center, or see our IT Self Help guide.
Web Content Management System
Academic and administrative departments use the University's web content management system (a.k.a., Sharepoint) to create department web sites. For more information see our IT Self Help Guide, or contact the IT Service Center.
