About CIS
Our Mission:
The mission of Furman University's Computing and Information Services division is to provide the University community with timely and cost-effective access to Information Technology appropriate to the mission and goals of the University, and to provide leadership and assistance in its use. Computing and Information Services will ensure that University operations make the fullest use of its resources and technologies.
Philosophy:
Computing and Information Services staff will keep abreast of current technologies and trends, and provide leadership exploiting these technologies to establish, maintain, and enhance Furman University's competitive advantage. With advice from the University's Academic and Administrative Computing Committees, Computing and Information Services will develop strategic initiatives for the use of Information Technology in support of the University's Strategic Plan. All activities will be performed in a highly professional and innovative manner, which will bring recognition to Computing and Information Services.
Operations:
Computing and Information Services will provide a robust, effective and secure environment to support Furman University. Services include:
- centralized computing facilities (where appropriate)
- a campus-wide voice and data network
- access to the Internet
- workstation and PC laboratories for instructional, curriculum development, and general use
- acquisition, development, maintenance and support of software and hardware
- instruction in the use of information technology
- procurement of hardware and software for use by other departments of the university
- assistance in seeking funding for non-budgeted acquisition of services,
- software and equipment related to the use of information technology
- support of faculty and staff development activities
