Furman University Men's Rugby

Furman Rugby Club

Founded in 1998, the Furman Rugby Club is among the top small-college rugby programs in the nation. The Paladins have captured three national small college championships and have been runner up twice. The program, too, has collected five South championships. Over the past five years, the team has compiled a 67-20 record. Founded and coached by John Roberts, the Paladins are known for their well-drilled, passionate play and sportsmanship. Furman plays in a dedicated rugby stadium on a field named in honor of their coach.

Lerner commits to Furman

Miles Lerner, captain of Minnesota state champions Edina High School, will attend Furman this fall and has been awarded a rugby scholarship.  A football and rugby standout, Lerner also served as captain of the Edina High School football team which finished the season with a 9-2 record.  An inside linebacker, Lerner (6’0, 200 pounds) will likely find a home in the Paladin backline.

"I am very excited to attend Furman next fall and to be playing for such a superb rugby program,” says Lerner.  “I know that Furman rugby has a great future,  and I'm pumped to be a part of the team and part of the brotherhood. I'm looking forward to the team’s success in the upcoming years that I know we are going to have."

Farnsworth selected as student speaker at Commencement

Jack Farnsworth, a graduating senior and four-year member of the rugby team, has been selected to be the student speaker at Commencement this Saturday. A native of Athens, Ga., Farnsworth graduated in December and has been teaching fifth grade math this spring at Veritas Classical School in Richmond. At Furman, he worked as a chaplain at prisons and hospitals in the Greenville area. During his time on the pitch, Farnsworth played mostly in the front row.
