First-year applicants
Some students fill out lots of applications. Some fill out one. As far as we're concerned, this is the most important application you're going to complete. Here's an easy guide to get you through the process.
We have streamlined the application process by giving you access to all the forms and materials that you'll need below. We encourage you to submit everything electronically. No application fee is required for online submissions. However, if you'd prefer to mail in your application and materials, please send them, along with a $50 application fee, to:

 Choose an application plan
At Furman, we treat each applicant as an individual. To that end, we've tailored three different application processes to meet each student's particular needs.
Early decision
If Furman is your first choice and you are confident that you will attend if admitted, apply Early Decision. Furman's Early Decision is binding, meaning that if you are admitted, you agree to withdraw your applications from all other institutions and commit to enroll at Furman. After admission, you are free to sit back and relax, while all of your friends scramble to apply to colleges.
Please note that if you apply for Merit-based Scholarships such as the Lay, Duke, Hollingsworth, Townes, or Departmental Scholarships, you will not be notified of the potential award until the following April. Therefore, if your college decision is dependent upon financial assistance from Merit-based Scholarships, we believe that either applying Early Action or Regular Decision would be a better choice for you, allowing you to compare financial aid packages from a number of schools in the spring rather than committing yourself now through an early binding agreement. If you have already applied Early Decision but your enrollment is contingent upon merit-based aid, we strongly encourage you to change your application from Early Decision to either Early Action or Regular Decision by emailing us at admission@furman.edu or calling us at 864.294.2034.
Early action
Early Action allows you to apply and learn about your admission decision before we notify applicants in our Regular Decision process. With Early Action, you're still free to investigate other schools.
Regular decision
If you want to keep your options open and need the most time to complete admission applications, apply Regular Decision. Regular Decision is the most traditional way that students apply to colleges.

Complete the Common Application
All students may complete and submit the Common Application online. For those who submit their application online, there is no application fee.

Check the status of your school report
Check with your guidance counselor to make sure he or she has completed the School Report, also available at commonapp.org. The report tells us about the courses and programs offered by your school.
Submit your high school transcript
A strong college preparatory course of study is essential. At minimum, it must include four years of English, algebra I and II, geometry, three years of social studies, at least three years of natural sciences, and two years of the same foreign language.
Schedule an interview if you are home-schooled
If you are home-schooled, we ask that you interview with Lindsey Walker, our Home-School Student Coordinator. Interviews allow us to better understand the curriculum and opportunities available to you. To schedule a time, email lindsey.walker@furman.edu or call 864.294.2034.
Optional steps
Apply for merit-based scholarships
We offer a number of scholarships to students who demonstrate strong ability based on their academic achievements, or who are gifted in other areas. Unless otherwise specified, these scholarships require separate applications that are due January 15. Please note that all decisions regarding Merit-based Scholarships are not determined until early April. If your enrollment is contingent upon these scholarships, please do not apply Early Decision, as the deadline for the deposit is prior to your scholarship notification.

We understand that college can be expensive, so we're here to help. Below are a few steps that will allow you to seek financial aid. You may also find more detailed steps at the financial aid website.

Submit standardized test scores
Our personal approach to the admission process allows us to gain insight about who you are, both academically and personally. Furman's Admission Committee is interested in getting to know the whole student — one who seeks academic challenge, leadership, service, commitment to the community and civic engagement. We view the admission process as an opportunity for you to showcase yourself and your abilities.
The Admission Committee believes that your potential for success cannot be determined solely by standardized test scores. Therefore, submitting your SAT or ACT scores is optional.
Our goal is to shape Furman's community with students of all different talents, backgrounds, personalities, interests, and passions. We invite you to let us get to know all about you.
If you do decide to submit your test scores and submit multiple test results, the Admission Committee will select the scores that offer you the greatest advantage in the admission review process. Furman's school code for the SAT and TOEFL is 5222, and the code for ACT is 3858. If you do not wish for us to consider your scores, please indicate so on the Supplement to the Common Application.
Schedule a FAN interview
Furman Admission Network interviews give you the opportunity to talk about all those things that make you unique — your talents, experiences and aspirations. What better way to find out if Furman is right for you? These informal interviews with Furman alumni or parents allow you to speak with someone who knows Furman personally. Though optional, we encourage all applicants to participate in an informal interview. Be sure to sign up for an interview before the deadline.
