Safety first
At Furman, we have taken several steps to ensure your time in Summer Scholars is safe and productive. Be sure to review the information below before you begin our program.
Living arrangements
Our participants will live on single-sex halls in a co-ed residence hall. A security card is required to access these halls. However, we do ask students to lock their doors when leaving their room. Furman does not assume responsibility for lost or stolen items.
Complete our 'Expectations for Campus Living' form
To ensure our scholars are respectful of each other and their surroundings, we ask all participants to sign and read our “Expectations for Campus Living” form before arriving on campus. Violations outlined in this form will result in dismissal from the program.
Driving to campus
Keep in mind that students who drive to campus for our program are asked to relinquish their keys at registration. No student is allowed leave campus during the program without permission from their parent or guardian and the director of Summer Scholars.
Our counselors
We have picked a talented group of Furman students to serve as your guides. Each of these counselors were selected in a thorough interview process, and bring a wealth of information to our program.
Each of these counselors will live in the residence hall during the program. From field trips to class, they will accompany you to every activity.
Health information
We recognize the importance of good health and safety for everyone. For that reason, we ask you to submit a medical examination/clearance form along with proof of insurance after you have been admitted to the program. This form requires a recent annual physical. Sports physicals will be accepted.
Our director and head counselor will keep medical records in confidentiality. This information should include any medications, allergies, psychological information and emergency contact numbers.
If you become ill or injured during the program, our director or head counselor will take you to the university infirmary or a local hospital. These individuals will also contact your parent or guardian in the event of an injury or illness. Be sure to bring extra money to cover any medical expenses.
