Meet Annabella

I never visited campus until move-in day, but everyone was so welcoming and friendly I didn't feel bad when my parents left. Being so far from family has been a challenge, but I have such a great support system here. When I was a freshman, I had to have surgery and my hall staff was on top of it. They took care of me until my mom could get here.

Best of list

show Best study location:

The cubicles in the library. I love to talk, but people will get mad if you talk in the cubicles, so that forces me to stay focused.

show Best thing about Greenville:

The downtown area. The restaurants and the atmosphere are great. You can go out with your friends on Friday night, but it's also a great place to have a nice dinner with your family.

show Favorite place to eat

Pomegranate on Main because it's different from the Southern food you get used to here.

show Favorite Furman tradition:

Throwing someone in the lake on their birthday. I got thrown in and my birthday is in November. I was cold and miserable, but now I look back on it and just laugh.

Helpful Tips

show Choosing a major:

Taking the classes you find interesting is crucial. Take the ones you want, not the ones everyone else is taking. And don't be afraid to talk to students who are already in the major and the professors.

show Studying:

There's so much to do in Furman and in Greenville. You don't want to miss out, but you can't leave academics aside. The biggest motivation is to know if you're wasting time doing nothing, you're going to miss out on something fun later.

show Getting involved:

Don't be afraid to talk to people. Everyone is super involved and very passionate. If you ask someone about their club, they'll talk to you for about 20 minutes and that's the best way to find out about things to do on campus.

show Living on campus:

When you live next door to your best friend, it's easy to stay up all night talking and not do your work. But don't get carried away because academics are the reason why we're here.
