Mark R. Woodard grew up the son of an IUP mathematics professor in Indiana, Pa., where he studied mathematics and computer science as an undergraduate, while spending lots of time in the natatorium. Next, he headed to Bloomington, Indiana (the other Indiana University) for an M.S. and a Ph.D. Dr. Woodard then came to Furman, where he has been since 1989 with the exception of a short sabbatical in Philadelphia visiting Bryn Mawr, and a year in the West Indies on a Fulbright. He enjoys teaching a variety of courses, but especially the advanced algebra and geometry courses. He has been the chair of the mathematics department since 2011.
