Once you have been notified of your acceptance into a study away program, there are a few initial steps that you'll need to complete to secure your spot in the program. As a participant, you will continue to work with your program director and the study away office to prepare for your study away experience.
Study Away Acceptance forms
No matter which study away program you're going on, you will need to submit a set of forms in order to confirm your participation. You'll also need to complete all of the post-acceptance steps in the online application system. View the Study Away Acceptance Forms.
Whether you're traveling away from campus during a May Experience or a semester program, you will need to be aware of the applicable housing deadlines and procedures. Contact Housing and Residence Life.
Passport and visa information
As soon as you're accepted into a program, you should apply for or renew your passport. Your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months beyond the return date of your program. Remember, you may need to submit your passport information several months before you travel for visa applications and travel reservations so it's best to start the passport process as early as possible. You should also research the visa requirements for all of the countries you will be visiting. Visit the U.S. State Department.
The best way to prepare for your trip, maximize your experience, and be a global citizen is by learning about your host country before you get there. Talk with your professors, research your destination, and use governmental resources. The U.S. State Department and CIA World Fact Book offer excellent information.
