Every other year, Professor Kristy Maher offers students the opportunity to join a study away trip to Africa. Her course focuses on the sociology of medicine, public health, and global health. Students take a full course load and travel in Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia and Botswana). Other departments that have participated in the past include Psychology, History, English, Economics and Art. Learn more about the program.

Sociology majors have the chance to participate in our May Experience program each year. All May Experience programs give students a chance to explore areas not covered in the regular curriculum and provide opportunities for students to dig deeper into areas not previously considered. Past programs have focused on the sociology of Harry Potter, statistics through sports, sociology of dance, and public sociology. These programs may include off-campus trips. Find a program.
