Alpha Kappa Delta is a non-secret, democratic, international society of scholars dedicated to the ideal of investigating humanity for the purpose of service. The goal of the organization is to promote an interest in the study of sociology, and the research of significant and lasting social problems, as well as other social activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.

Majors who meet the following criteria will be invited to join:

  • Be a sociology major or seriously involved with sociology
  • Complete four regular courses in sociology
  • Be a junior
  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA overall and in sociology
  • Rank in the top 35% of your class, which varies but is often in the range of a 3.4 GPA

Activities include an annual dinner for members and faculty, research colloquia, guest scholars, and departmental support for student research publication in Sociological Inquiry, the official journal of Alpha Kappa Delta. For more information, contact Dr. Ken Kolb.
