The music of John Luther Adams: An Alaskan composer whose work melds the natural environment into musical sound environments.
The commissioning of and premiering new works for percussion: Recent commissions include "Timber", a 75-minute work for 6 percussionists from award-winning composer Michael Gordon, "Inuksuit" for 9-99 outdoor percussionists by John Luther Adams, and a new work due out in 2012 from New Zealand composer John Psathas.
The endangerment of Honduras Rosewood. This three provides the primary wood used in the creation of marimbas and xylophones and was recently put under the protection of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES).
