  • Current disciplinary research interests

Impacts of urbanization on antibiotic-resistant bacterial communities.
Genetic diversity of E. coli populations in environment.
The diversity and distribution of tetracycline-resistant bacteria and tetracycline-resistant genes.

  • Interest in connecting sustainability to research

My student researchers and I study environmental impacts on the bacterial community composition, particularly the abundance, diversity, and distribution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antibiotic-resistant genes.  We work closely with Dr. Greg Lewis and Dr. John Quinn in the Biology Department.  I am deeply interested in developing team-teach courses with colleagues of all disciplines.

  • Center-funded research projects

Food Systems and Farming Initiative grant to study the effectiveness of an anaerobic composting technique.  We also examined bacterial loads on organic and conventional produce acquired at local grocery stores and markets.
