  • Current disciplinary research interests

My primary research interests are identity and emotion (from a sociological perspective). In particular, I study how people manage their identity and emotion in potentially traumatic work conditions when working with at-risk clients. My secondary research interest is in the area of qualitative assessment of learning outcomes. For the past two years I have been interviewing first-year students before and after their FYW courses. We are almost finished with the final (fourth) wave of interviews and should have something to submit to a journal in early 2011.

  • Interest in connecting sustainability to research

I participated in the faculty seminar to "infuse" sustainability across the curriculum. In exchange, I have inserted a "sustainability" module in my Introduction to Sociology course. If other faculty are interested in coming up with new, qualitative means of assessing learning outcomes related to sustainability, I would like to be involved.
